Crown Peak

 

Overlooking the mighty Wakatipu Basin, hikers and photographers won’t be disappointed with the panoramic view as our helicopter lands at the 1731m summit of Crown Peak. Enjoy the remote alpine setting as our hiking adventure takes us down through hills of golden tussock and into the hidden goldmining gorges below. With around 1000m of decent over 10km be prepared to be hiking for approximately 3-4 hours whilst your guide provides you with insightful commentary on the local Maori and goldmining legends, as well as the unique flora and fauna of the high country tundra. Our hike finishes in Arrowtown where we can explore the old gold mining communities further or quench our thirst at the local pub!

Mt Rosa

 

The summit of Mt Rosa (1324m) overlooks the beautiful and renowned wine region of Gibbston Valley, but also affords spectacular alpine views of the Remarkables, Old Woman Range, Nevis and Kawarau Valleys. There’s no better place to escape it all and enjoy a picnic high above the bustling vineyards below.

Your experienced guide will provide you with an insight to the history, geography, flora and fauna of the area as you commence your hike down to the valley. The route down via Coal Pit Saddle to the Gibbston Tavern is amongst alpine tussock and high-country farmland. There will be approximately 3 hours of downhill walking.
